Benjamin McIntosh

Benjamin J. McIntosh, 74, passed away on April 3, 2024 at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation with his family by his side.

Ben was born on August 16, 1949 in Muskogee, OK to Luke and Elizabeth (Scott) McIntosh. He graduated from Oklahoma State University and spent most of his career as a systems engineer for IBM. He left IBM in 1999 and started his own business, B.J. McIntosh & Associates, which he ran before retiring in 2007 and moved to Vermont with his wife Sarah.

Ben was a man of many talents. Before pursuing a career in computer science, he was originally going to be a concert pianist. He also was a master of the guitar and drums. His passions included cooking, riding his motorcycle, and dancing. He also enjoyed his time outdoors, especially kayaking, fishing, and hiking at the family cabin in Lunenburg. Ben was very proud of his Native American and Scottish roots. He spent time tracing his genealogy and compiling the information for future generations. Ben was proud to be a member of the Muscogee Creek Nation and the Clan Mackintosh, attending and volunteering for years at the Scottish Highland Games.

In addition to his parents, Ben was predeceased by his aunts and uncles in Oklahoma that he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sarah McIntosh of Lyndonville; sons Benjamin Joel (Alice) of Lyndonville, Erin Scott (Paul) of Rochester, MN, and John Luke McIntosh of Lyndonville; daughter Kim McIntosh of Missouri; nephew Matthew Harvey, who was a member of Ben’s household for many years, and brothers Luke (Jana), Richard (Diane), and Chuck McIntosh and their families of Texas and Oklahoma.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
