St. Johnsbury, VT: Brenda Sue Owens, age 72, of Suffolk St., passed away Friday morning, August 8th, 2025, at her home in St. Johnsbury.
Brenda was born in St. Johnsbury, on March 17th, 1953, daughter to the late Kenneth Maxwell Aldrich and Gladys Roancy (Baird) Aldrich. She grew up in the Northeast Kingdom and graduated from Lyndon Institute in the Class of 1971. Bren married Christopher on December 12th, 1975 and they shared nearly 50 years together raising their family. She was a homemaker for a time, but her working career was varied and wide. She served as a secretary at the Vermont State House, became one of the first women Deputies for the Caledonia County Sheriff’s Department, was an educational assistant in the St. Johnsbury School District, and was proud to be the Assistant Director of the St. Johnsbury Academy Field House. Brenda was passionate about powerlifting, and held many American and National records. She also enjoyed camping with Chris and the boys. Brenda had a fondness for antiques, and spent a lot of time at the What Not Shop in Sutton, which was owned by her parents.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Chris, of St. Johnsbury, her sons: Jordan and wife, Christine, of St. Johnsbury, Richard and wife, Helaina, of Bozeman, MT, a grandson, Christopher “CJ” Owens of St. Johnsbury, three siblings: Tom Aldrich and wife, Kim, of Garland, TX, Max Aldrich and wife, Maureen, of Sheffield, VT, and Tim Aldrich and wife, Sue, of Sutton, VT. She is also survived by four nieces and a nephew whom she loved very much: Lisia Aldrich, Katie Choiniere, Kristyna Aldrich, Monica Chamberlain and Casey Aldrich.
Brenda loved her family and her door was always open to them. She helped care for many of the children, in addition to her own. Brenda was proud to be a grandmother to her special grandson, CJ.
There will be no calling hours at this time. Private services will be observed by the family with a future interment at the Hillside Cemetery in West Burke, VT.
Brenda loved animals and had many pets over the years. Memorial Donations may be made in her name to the Kingdom Animal Shelter, 1161 Portland Street, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819 or to a shelter of one’s choice.
