Carol Waterman Hislop

Carol Marie Hislop, age 79, of Fairfax, VT, passed away June 1, 2026, with her family beside her at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Living Center in St. Johnsbury, VT where she has resided since 2023.

Carol was born on March 25, 1947, in Windsor, VT, daughter to the late William Mansfield and Christine (Yule) Waterman. She was raised and educated there graduating from Windsor High School in the Class of 1965 and matriculated to the University of Vermont completing her Bachelors in English in 1969. Carol married Richard Hislop on May 15, 1971 and they made their home in Fairfax. As the children grew up she began volunteering at the local library and then took a position with Cedarbrook Associates in 1985 continuing there until retiring in 2007. Carol was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of St. Albans and was very active in the church community. She held several offices such as Board of deacons, secretary, treasurer and numerous others. She also was a member of the choir where she not only sang but she played the flute, a talent she had learned in high school. She was an avid reader, just devouring book after book. Loved music and was a quilter. Some of her favorite places to go were Ocean Park, ME, yearly vacation to Tucson, AZ during February break and for 20 years to Cobbs-Pierce Pod Camps in Maine with the family. Carol was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years: Richard Hislop of Fairfax, 2 daughters: Karen Cameron of New Haven, VT, Sarah Olds (Justin) of St. Albans, VT, her sister: Janet Hopper (Kenneth) of Tucson, AZ, her sister-in-law: Patricia Hopp of Rutland, VT, 5 grandchildren: Taylor, Meredith, Grace, Hannah, Wyatt and nieces and nephews: George Hopp, II, Christine Keiran, Terry Hopper, & William Hopper.
