Carol Marion Watkins, 93, of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, who walked all around the St. Johnsbury area for decades, peacefully walked into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday August 13, 2026. Born on April 7, 1933, in Lancaster, New Hampshire to Reta and Conrad Hillier, Carol grew up in Lancaster and graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1951. Later that year she married Paul Watkins. She gave birth to sons Timothy and Dennis, then moved to St. Johnsbury where she gave birth to sons Patrick and Christopher.
In her thirties she went to college and graduated from Lyndon State College in 1969. She embarked on a fulfilling career as a teacher: 5th-8th grade in Sheffield, then 3rd grade in Danville.
In her forties, Carol made the decision to surrender to and follow Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Truly her greatest joy came in walking with Him and choosing to rely on His payment for her sins instead of relying on her own nicely but imperfectly lived life. Her body stopped living on August 13; today she is actually more alive than ever. She has just changed her address.
Carol was predeceased by her parents; her husband Paul; son Timothy; sisters Marjorie and Barbara and brother Richard. She is survived by her sister Dede; sister-in-law Mary Ellen; sons Dennis (Joanne), Patrick (Debbie), and Chris (Lili); grandsons Chris (Katelyn) and Corey (Michelle); great-grandchildren Ainsley, Christopher, Auron, Colby, Elijah, and Ryan.
Heartfelt thanks to Corner Medical, NVRH, Dartmouth, St. Johnsbury Rehab, and to Dr. Ready and the wonderful team at Caledonia Home Health & Hospice.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday August 25 at 2:00 PM at Centervale Cemetery in St. Johnsbury Center. Family and friends may gather after at 584 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury.
