Caroline Sarah Bones, nee Vaughan-France

On January 16, 2026, Caroline Sarah Bones, née Vaughan-France, (65) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness.

Known to family, friends, and coworkers as Sarah, she was born in England to Anthony and Ann (Rogers) Vaughan-France. Sarah grew up on a farm in the West country, developing a lifelong love for the outdoors. She successfully competed in multiple equestrian disciplines from a young age and excelled in track and field.

Always known for her caring nature, it would later manifest into a career in nursing. She trained at the the prestigious Nightingale School of Nursing and specialised in ophthalmology, studying at the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Sarah also returned to education as an adult, completing her B.A. in Business Administration at the College of St. Joseph in 2007. Later in her career, she was a highly respected hospice nurse and a Director of Nursing in the assisted living and memory care communities. Her kindness and compassion were often lauded by those she worked with and cared for.

Sarah was very active in her children's lives growing up, volunteering in the classroom wherever she could. Weekends were divided between hockey games and alpine ski racing.

A seasoned traveler, Sarah instilled upon her children the love of foreign lands and cultures. She supported her family, especially her husband, in all of their theatrical endeavors and often volunteered for behind-the-scenes activities.

Sarah did all of this with her trademark British dry sense of humor, a smile, endless hugs, and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her.

Sarah is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Martin Bones; daughter, Virginia Bones and son-in-law Jordan Rodriguez of Walnut Creek, CA; son, Alastair Bones of New Orleans, LA; brother-in-law, Gwyn Morris of Carmarthenshire, Wales; sister, Julie Bullett of Devon, England; brother, Paul Vaughan-France and wife Kate of Somerset, England; sister, Janet Pritchard and husband David of Buckinghamshire, England; and brother, Simon Vaughan-France and wife Rebecca of Somerset, England; and many loved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and eldest sister, Gillian Morris of Carmarthenshire, Wales.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
