Catherine (Cathy) Susan Grady Sicard, aged 82, formerly of South Burlington, Vermont, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at her assisted living facility in Warren, New Jersey, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on May 27, 1944, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, Cathy was the beloved daughter of the late John and Williamina (Stephen) Grady. She grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy with the Class of 1962. During her youth, she was a dedicated member of the International Order of the Rainbow Girls and learned the values of hard work and family devotion while growing up on her family’s farm, Fairview Farm, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Cathy often spoke of spending time with her beloved grandmother, Mattie Page Stephen, at her camp on Miles Pond.
Cathy lived a life defined by her sharp wit, infectious laugh, and unconditional love for her family. She spent most of her professional career working as an office manager at Vermont Radiologists, where she was highly respected for her impeccable work ethic—often the first to arrive and the last to leave. Beyond her career, Cathy was deeply passionate about sewing, gardening, and cooking. She possessed a remarkable green thumb, able to nurse nearly any plant back to life, and her cooking easily rivaled that of any fine restaurant. Cathy was intensely proud of her family heritage and delighted in the stories of her family’s close ties to the founding of America.
Cathy cherished traveling throughout Vermont and the Northeast to visit her relatives. Some of her fondest memories were of Sunday family gatherings at her parents’ farm, where sitting around the dining table with tea filled the room with laughter and unforgettable stories.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. As a mother, grandmother, and friend, she poured her heart into those she loved, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and devotion. Whether she was standing in a snowy field watching her children compete in skiing and hockey, or cheering from the sidelines at track meets and other sporting events, Cathie was always their biggest champion.
Cathy is survived by her children: Nancy Sicard of Buxton, Maine; Thomas and Galia Sicard of Millington, New Jersey; Amy and Jim Kutchukian of Swanton, Vermont; Jennifer Sicard of Burlington, Vermont; and David Sicard of Alburgh, Vermont. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and her loving siblings: William and Madeline Grady of Arizona; Jane Grady of Barre, Vermont; and David Grady of Vernon, Vermont, along with many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Grady Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11am at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer St., St. Johnsbury VT. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
