Lyndonville, VT: David E. Bixby, age 67, of Brown Farm Road, died at his home Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by his beloved family after a recent decline.
David was born in Oklahoma City, OK, on October 12, 1956, son to the late Dorothy (Silsby) and Kenneth Edward Bixby. He grew up in Gilman, VT, attended Gilman Elementary and graduated from Littleton High School in the Class of 1974. David worked at the Gilman Paper Mill in a number of capacities. In later years he worked at Lyndon State College in the maintenance area. He referred to this as his, “pre-retirement” job. David fully retired in 2019. David was an avid hunter, always pursuing the Elusive White-tailed Deer. He was an avid skier, and an incredible storyteller; as the family historian he never forgot a name, date, place or important event. He fiercely loved his family, and they returned that in spades. After a serious snow tobogganing accident in 1994, David was told that he would be lucky to walk again. He proved them wrong and with his wife hiked a variety of 4000’ mountains throughout Vermont and New Hampshire including those in Franconia Notch, all 13 of the Presidential Range and Mt. Washington twice!
David is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Elaine (Sorrell) Bixby of Lyndonville, 2 daughters: Monica Bixby (Bruce) of Concord, Stephanie Bixby (Kyle) of Essex Jct, 2 bonus grandchildren: Dylon and Brianna, his in-laws: Philip and Jean Sorrell, his brothers-in-law who he considered brothers : Stephen Sorrell (Teresa), Michael Sorrell (Turie), Jeffery Sorrell, sister: Susan Walsh (Peter), brother-in-law: John Murray, his special Nephew who ws a hunting partner and friend: Jordan along with nieces and nephews: Nikki, Crystal, Sean, Jesse, Jodi, Matt, Ashley, Kelly, Kathleen and Jill.
