Douglas Beane

March 4, 1926 — September 18, 2015

Douglas J. Beane, 89, passed away on September 18th at the University of Vermont Medical Center, after an extended illness. He was born in East Burke, Vermont, on March 4, 1926, son of the late Kenneth B. and Gladys (McNally) Beane and divided his time between his home in Lyndonville, a seasonal lakeside home in Vermont and his winter home in Florida. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Gary Russell of Charlotte, his sister Shirley Pierce of Lyndonville, his sister in-law Marjorie LaCroix of Torrance, CA and his sister-in-law Betty Derosier and her husband Richard, of St. Johnsbury, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite, his brother-in-law Linwood Pierce, his sister- and brother-in-law Lucille and Malcolm Jenkins, his brother-in-law Richard LaCroix, as well as several cousins. Doug served during World War II aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63), and was present for the signing of the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945. He later owned Reed Supply Company in St. Johnsbury with his partner Eugene McDonough. Doug and his friend Stanley Peck made maple syrup together for many years in the NEK. He also enjoyed playing golf, dining out, and trips with his family - especially his car trips to and from Florida with his son-in-law Gary. The family would like to especially thank the many doctors, nurses, and other providers -- both here and in Florida -- who cared for Doug so compassionately, as well as the many friends, relatives, and neighbors who enabled him to live independently; too many to name individually, but may each of you know that you truly were his personal favorite! A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the Woodmont Cemetery, RT 114 in East Burke, VT. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the USS Missouri Memorial Association, Donations, P.O. Box 879, Aiea, HI 96701 or at https://ussmissouri.org/donate/donate-online/ Condolences may be shared privately with the family at www.guibordfh.com
