George Babcock Jr.

George Augustus Babcock, Jr., age 68, of East Concord, VT, died early Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, following a long decline in health.

George was born on August 5, 1957, in Concord, VT, to the late George Augustus Babcock, Sr., and Marion (Emerson) Babcock at the Austin Maternity Home in Concord that was operated by Dr. Russell Dickson, the town’s doctor.

George grew up in Kirby and St. Johnsbury and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in the Class of 1975 where he was a member of the wrestling program and the Theatre Group. He matriculated to Lyndon State College and completed his B.A. in Theatre and Interpretive Arts in 1979. He was a member of the Twilight Players and appeared in many of their shows. George continued working with the Twilight Players after graduation.

Over the years, George worked as a security guard at various businesses in the St. Johnsbury area, taught Theatre Arts at the King George School, and was a part-time dispatcher for the St. Johnsbury Police Department.

His interests included wrestling, fishing, hunting, 60s-70s rock music, playing his bass guitar and jamming with the guys, and visiting with people.

George is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Bonnie (Ranney) Babcock of East Concord. They were together a total of 33 years. He is also survived by his beagle, “Buddy”; two sisters-in-law and their families: Donna Garfield and husband, Reed; Linda Burson and husband, Stephen; and many friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews too numerous to mention. Although George was an only child, he had many cousins who were like brothers and sisters to him.

His father’s 100th birthday would have been April 13, 2026. The family is consoled knowing that George Jr. was able to celebrate that special birthday with his father.

A graveside service will take place on the date of George and Bonnie’s 25th wedding anniversary, September 15, 2026, at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury at 11:00 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear camo-printed apparel, tie dye shirts, Hawaiian shirts, or anything with bright colors. Anyone with mobility issues should feel free to bring a chair to the service.

Memorial Donations may be made in George’s name to Riverside Animal Rescue, 236 Riverside Ave., Lunenburg, VT 05906.

There will be no calling hours.
