Gerald E. Thompson, 90, most recently of White River Jct., VT, passed away on June 16, 2024 at Springfield Health & Rehabilitation after a brief illness.
Gerald was born on January 7, 1934 to Charles and Inez (Bidwell) Thompson. He was born and raised in Sheffield and always considered Sheffield home. He married Jean A. Cushing on February 15, 1955, raising two daughters and spending 40 happy years together before her death in 1995. Gerald spent most of his career as a truck driver for Cheseborough Ponds. Outside of his work, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, camping, fishing, as well as watching stock car racing.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife Jean Thompson; brothers Lloyd (Norma) Thompson, Delbert “Bud” (Arlene) Thompson, Donald (Perlene) Thompson, and Wayland Thompson; sisters Thelma (Robert) Simpson, and Madelene (Stephan) Robinson; sister-in-law Huguette Thompson; brother-in-law Delbert Cushing; son-in-law Paul C. Leavitt; and nephews Dale Thompson and Larry Simpson.
Gerald is survived by his loving daughters Cindy Leavitt of Williamsville, VT, and Kathy Spitzschuh of White River Junction, VT; brother Richard Thompson of Sheffield, VT; sisters-in-law Louise Thompson of Sheffield, VT, and Donna Cushing of Lee Center, NY; grandchildren Todd (Mary) Leavitt of Brattleboro, VT, Kirsten (Jeremy Cote) Leavitt of Waltham, MA, and Michael (Leeann Coutermarch) Pitts of White River Jct., VT; great-grandchild Jayce Pitts; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on June 20, 2024, at William Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield, VT.
