Gloria Garand

Gloria (Fontaine) Garand, 95, of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, passed away at Canterbury Inn on Friday, April 25, 2025, surrounded by her four children. Gloria was born on August 10, 1929, to Joseph and Eugenie (Audette) Fontaine.

Gloria was married on July 4, 1949, to Reginald Garand, who predeceased her on September 21, 2023. They were married for 74 years.

Over the years, Gloria was a factory worker at local manufacturing plants.

Her biggest accomplishment and her pride and joy was being a loving wife and a wonderful mother to their four children. She always had a lending ear and was more concerned with the happiness of her family than herself.

Gloria loved the great outdoors, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the family camp at Miles Pond.

Gloria is survived by her children: Duane Garand, Diane Gilman, Jeannine (David) Hawkins and Joane Garand; grandchildren: Kevin, Angela, Chad, Aaron, Michelle, Justin, Nicholas, Derek and Brooke; and great-grandchildren: Joshua, Cameron, Katie, Robbie, Cole, Sydney, Payton, Wyatt, Piper and Losada.

She was predeceased by her parents, all of her siblings, a grandson, Dillon and Derek’s wife, Jenn.

We would like to thank the staff at Canterbury Inn for their wonderful and loving care during her time there.

We would also like to thank Dr. Ready and her Hospice/Home Health staff.
