Harriett Sheehan

Concord, VT: Harriett Irene Sheehan, age 92, of Canterbury Inn, St Johnsbury, VT, died at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital late Thursday evening, April 25, 2024, following a long period of declining health.

Harriett was born on June 3, 1931, in Colebrook, NH, daughter to the late Clyde, Sr. and Gladys (Noyes) Stevens, grew up there until about 13 years of age until moving to Massachusetts, living in Walpole and the Cape Cod area.  Harriett worked as a waitress for many years, ran the Backdoor Inn in Falmouth and the Lakeside Restaurant in Mashpee.  She came to Vermont about 1969 to help care for family and was proud to make the Kingdom her home. Harriett found employment at Burndy’s, EHV Weidmann and at Metz in Lyndonville.  She loved the outdoors, going camping, and game nights with the family.  She loved flowers, crocheting, feeding the birds- especially the Cardinals, raising her ducks, reading and having a margarita!  

She is survived by her 4 children and 11 grandchildren:  Harriett’s daughter: Diane Layton of St. Johnsbury and her son, Charles Layton, Jr. (Vivian) of Lyndonville; Harriett’s son: Bob Carberry of N. Concord (Teressa Cyr) and his daughters: Tricia Carberry of Hyannis, MA, Paula Carberry also of Hyannis and Jennifer Carberry of Fall River, MA, Jazmine Shaw VT; Harriett’s daughter, Patricia Patenaude who died in 2019, her children: Crystal Harris (Jason) of Lyndonville and Melissa Patenaude (Neal Chapman) of Ft. Worth, TX;  Harriet’s daughter: Theresa Isham (Keith) of Kirby, VT and their children: Katie Dupont (Adam) of Brunswick, VT and Brandon Isham (Megan) of Lunenburg, VT; Harriet’s son: Ed Sheehan (Lori) of Concord, VT, and their children: Lindsey Quinones-Sheehan of N. Concord and Chelsea Arsenault (Cody) of Lunenburg and many great and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her daughter, Patricia, she was also predeceased by her granddaughter: Christina Layton, her son-in-law: Charles Layton, Sr., her brother: Clyde Noyes, Jr. and sister: Jeannette Dresser. her companion of 30 years Reginald Payette Sr and his son Reggie Jr.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, VT.

Friends may call on the family from 11AM Friday morning until the hour of service at 1PM.  Interment will follow at the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury, VT.
