With heavy hearts we must inform you that a good man has completed his earthly journey. Harry E. Chandler, born May 4, 1935, to Samuel A. and Ruth Somers Chandler died April 26, 2026, surrounded by love and his wife, daughter and son.
Harry lived his childhood and youth in St. Johnsbury graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1954. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force and spent most of his military career in Germany. Returning to Vermont in March of 1958 he joined his parents in the family business, Burns Florist, subsequently changing the name to Chandler’s Greenhouses which he operated for many years before discovering his passion for forestry. He then changed his focus to in his word “growing larger stems”. He took great pride in being selected National Tree Farmer of the year in 1986.
In 1959 he met and married Judith Bunten and they became the parents of two cherished children, Crystal and David. He is survived by his wife, Judy, daughter Crystal Prevost and son David (Theresa Selfa) Chandler, grandchildren Aimee (Shane) LaCroix, Danielle (Dennis) Miller, Miles Chandler and Amelia Chandler and 3 beautiful and much loved great grand girls, Eleanor, Madeline and Natalie as well as 2 sisters Maxine Luongo, Donna (Rodney) Ferguson, sister-in-law Roberta (Kevin) and their son Patrick Ayer and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, Sam and Ruth, mother-in-law Edith, two sisters-in-law Patricia and Mary, one brother-in-law Lawrence Luongo as well as his much loved son-in-law Gerard Prevost and nephews Sam, Rob and Kyle.
There will be no formal services at this time but a celebration of Harry’s life at a future date on the land he loved. If you wish to honor Harry’s life, please emulate his kind and generous spirit with a smile and handshake for everyone you meet, dance and plant a tree.
