Henry "Pete" Greer

Henry Arnold "Pete" Greer, 75, of East Burke passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 after a short battle with cancer.

Pete was born on September 24, 1948, to the late Henry and Virginia (Legacy) Greer. Born and raised in Burke, Pete graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1966. After high school, he worked a time at Vinton Motors in St. Johnsbury and also at Northeast Tool in Lyndonville. In 1968-1970, he served during the Vietnam era as an Army mechanic in Fort Bragg, NC. His last employment was to work as a truck driver for Currier Trucking in Gorham, NH for over 30 years, until his stroke in 2003.

In the mid 1970s, Pete and his family helped establish the E. Burke volunteer fire department. He was acting as a fireman until February of 2019, when he retired as the assistant fire chief after 40 years of service.

Pete spent his free time hunting, motorcycle riding, and an occasional trip to the American Legion Post #30. He enjoyed his Goldwing motorcycle up until a few years after having his stroke which ended his riding. Before that he took so many trips; the best ones being to Sturgis, SD for the huge bike rally held there. Pete’s family cherishes so many memories from those trips, even the short, local trips. He had a whole new happiness while riding the motorcycle and would always take his beloved life partner of 35 years, Luann.  He would sometimes take his mini dachshund, "Squeak", on trips to the local ice cream shop on the bike. She loved those rides too.

In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his brother, Elwin Greer (Whitefield, NH)

Pete leaves behind his partner, Luann Nelson Hastie of Burke; his children, Eric Greer of Burke, Amber Fissette and husband Ryan of Lyndonville, and Jason Hastie and wife Kali of Jonesville, NC; his brothers Wayne Greer and Brian Greer and wife Sandy, both of E. Burke; his grandchildren Cameron Fissette, Maze, Jack, and Kash Teague, and Isabella Greer; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Henry to the American Legion Post #30 of Lyndonville. (Attention Jay Mathews (commander) PO Box #1156, Lyndonville, VT 05851)
