James Spencer

James Cushman Spencer, age 64, died, Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness. He was born to Conrad Milton Spencer and Mary Emma (Cushman) Spencer on April 6, 1951, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. He was raised in Lyndonville with his big sister, Mary Kay, and attended the Lyndon Schools, graduating from Lyndon Institute in 1969. During his high school years he excelled in track and was an accomplished skier in Alpine, Nordic, and jumping, earning a ski scholarship to Fort Lewis College, Durango, Colorado. On August 26, 1972, he married his girlfriend, Judy (Canton) from Whitefield, New Hampshire. Together, they built a house in Lyndonville, and made it a home raising three daughters -- Jessica , Melissa, and Bethany. He is remembered as a kind and adventurous husband and father. Jim worked hard and played hard. After apprenticing with Hebert's Plumbing and Heating he started his own business, Spencer's Plumbing and Heating, which he ran for over 30 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed all kinds of hunting, fishing, camping and skiing with both family and friends. Jim was a man of many talents and you could often find him working on a project or two in his garage. He was a very generous man and was always lending a helping hand. Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 43 years Judith of Lyndonville, Vt., his daughters Jessica (Spencer) Angell and husband Richard of West Burke, Vt., Melissa Spencer of Lyndonville, Vt., and Bethany (Spencer) North and husband Ryan of West Dover, Vt. Jim adored his four grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, and Bowden Angell and Spencer North. He is also survived by his sister Mary (Spencer) Guilmette and husband Karl of Largo, Fla. Please join us in celebrating his life on the afternoon of May 21st, more information will follow. A family graveside service will be held prior to the celebration.
