Janet Smith

Lyndonville, VT: Janet Smith, age 85, formerly of Bluebird Lane in Lyndonville, VT, passed away on October 6, 2026, in Coraopolis, PA with her daughter by her side.

Janet was born on March 23, 1941, in Wheelock, Vermont. She went to local schools graduating from Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center, Vermont. She met her future husband Robert Smith in Wheelock and fell deeply in love. He was one of the infamous "Smith Boys". Her father was not too sure about Robert, but in the end, Robert won him over! Janet and Robert were married on March 27,1960. They had two daughters, Marcie and Karen. The family moved to Massachusetts due to Robert being in the Air Force, and then, after Robert was discharged moved back to Wheelock wanting to raise their daughters in the town Janet knew and loved.

Janet worked at Lyndonville Savings Bank and later became the Town Clerk of Wheelock. She was involved in MANY community events including Chicken Pie Suppers, Town Meeting Meals, parades, etc. She belonged to the Community Club and other social groups in the town. Basically, anything that could help the town, she was in it. She was famous for making homemade donuts for the family's sugar on snow parties at the house in the spring. Janet loved helping her neighbors and friends in any way she could.

She is survived by her husband: Robert Smith of Pittsburgh, PA, her daughter: Karen Martell and husband, Darin, of Pittsburgh, PA, grandsons: Nathan Powers Jr., wife Alyssa, and their daughter Mackenzie Rae Powers of Pittsburgh, PA and Raven Dubh and partner Christine, of Seattle, WA, and her best friend Sherry Hall of Lyndonville, VT. She is also survived by many of Robert's relatives, whom she thought of not only as family, but also as her dearest friends.

She is predeceased by her daughter: Marcie Jo, her parents: Arthur and Rita Bailey of Wheelock, VT and her sister: Adele Kirk, her husband Fred, and their children, Jeff and Heidi formerly of Concord, NH.

A Graveside Service will take place Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11AM at the Sulfur Springs Cemetery in Wheelock, VT will Rev Ann Hockridge officiating.

Friends may call on the family Friday, October 16, 2026, from 5-7PM at the Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home, 15 Main Street in Lyndonville.
