Janice Claire (Marcotte) Dussault, aged 75, took the trip of a lifetime on Saturday, August 30, 2025 when she embarked on her final journey, entering the gates of heaven, just twelve days shy of her 76th birthday.
Janice was born on September 11, 1949 at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, the second daughter of Alfred and Virginia (Dubuque) Marcotte. She grew up on Mount Vernon Street where she loved playing with her friends, fishing with her dad, and being walked to school by her dog Sunday.
After her 1967 graduation from St. Johnsbury Academy, where she excelled as a majorette, Janice entered the workforce as a legal secretary to Arthur Graves. She spent her entire work career as an administrative professional, employed by various legal firms, insurance companies and school systems. Her greatest memories came from her time working for U.S. District Court of Appeals justice, the Honorary Sterry Waterman, as well as her time working in the St. Johnsbury School District, starting at Frank R. Adams School, moving to the Middle School, and finally to the office of Superintendent. Along the way she also spent time working at Lyndon State College and St. Johnsbury Academy.
On June 6, 1970 she married her devoted husband of fifty-five years Paul (Pinky) Dussault of St. Johnsbury. They bought their ‘mansion on a hilltop’ on Clay Hill in 1974 where they raised their three children: Erika (Peter) Schmid, Ryan (Patience) Dussault, and Emily (Dwayne) Couture. Together, Paul and Janice operated Dussault Heating for 39 years until Paul’s retirement.
Janice loved camping with her family and spent many summers as a seasonal camper at Lone Pine Campsites in Colchester, VT. She and Paul also loved traveling after the nest was empty, particularly with Fran and Ken Achilles, their cousins and dearest friends. Janice and Paul made many trips over the years to include Pigeon Forge TN, Branson MI, Lancaster PA and Disneyworld. She and Paul treasured their travel memories and were so thankful for the ability to travel to so many wonderful places.
A two-time cancer survivor, Janice’s motto was ‘Never, ever give up!’, and she lived that out until the end. Her last three years of life with Paul became her time of ministry while she lived at the St. Johnsbury Center for Living and Rehabilitation and the Greensboro Nursing Home. She would tell those who visited, “God isn’t done with me yet. I still have a job to do!” Sure enough, you would find her participating in activities, playing bingo to win prizes for her great-grandbabies, and making new friends, which she was especially good at. She loved to attend Good News Club and church services, sitting right up front clapping, singing and sharing about God's goodness.
Many of those Janice loved have made the final journey before her including her parents, her step-mother Floy, her older sister and brother-in-law, Shari-Jean and Ralph Aussiker, her in-laws Albert and Noella (Corriveau) Dussault, Denise (Dussault) and Roland (Pete) Caron, and Karlene (Skinner) Dussault.
Janice is survived by her husband Paul, her three children and their spouses, ten grandchildren: Khristich (Emma) Schmid, Josiah (Rebecca) Schmid, Niamh (Nick) Paris, Zebulun Schmid, Jubilee Schmid, Morgan (Luke) Jordan, Jonathan Couture, Cooper Couture, Amelia Couture, and Isaac Couture; and three great-granddaughters Claire and Naomi Schmid and Luna Paris. She is also survived by a very special niece, Suzi Mudge, in addition to four brothers-in-laws and their families.
She will be missed for her delicious homemade cooking, her beautiful gardens and her exceptional dancing. Janice had an artistic side to her which included her love for ceramics, her paintings, crocheting and quilting. Her classy dress, amazing hair, and love for the down-trodden will never be forgotten.
She is now free of all that hindered her during her earthly journey and is now rejoicing mightily in Jesus’ precious arms. And for that, those who love her are truly grateful.
Her family would like to thank all of her caregivers who made her feel especially loved and pampered, meeting her needs while she lived in her home and during her final three years when she could no longer live independently. They would also like to express their gratitude to Greensboro Nursing Home and Caledonia County Home Health Care & Hospice for the incredible care they gave Janice in the last couple months of her life, allowing her to finish her journey with incredible dignity.
At the request of the family, there will be no visiting hours. A private burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Johnsbury led by Rev. Rick Menard with a Celebration of Life being planned for the spring/summer of 2026.
Sayles Funeral Home in St. Johnsbury is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial gifts can be made to Greensboro Nursing Home or Caledonia Home Health Care & Hospice.
