Janice Hemond

*****UPDATE - Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.*****

Janice “Choo Choo” Hemond, 81, of Waterford, VT passed away on Wednesday, January 14th at Cottage Hospital; surrounded by loved ones.

Janice was born on January 18th, 1944, to George and Mary Carpenter in Concord, VT. She graduated from Concord High School in 1962.

Janice married the love of her life, Michael Hemond, on February 8th, 1964, in St. Johnsbury, VT. They were married for 61 years.

Janice worked at Grants Store, A&P, Parker Drug, Dr. Bob’s, Hitchner, and Brooks Pharmacy. Janice loved to bowl and take family vacations to Florida and Maine with Michael and their 6 children. Janice was also known to never miss her children’s ball games, meets, races, a show, or concert. And when it came to her grandchildren, she was known as “Mimi”. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and take them to Santa’s Village, Clark’ Trading Post, anywhere where she could spend time with them and make those times special. She is well known for her turkey crepes, homemade donuts, whoopie pie, to name a few. Another one she had that showed how much she loved her children and their friends growing up, including nieces and nephews and grandchildren, was her dream sandwiches made of grilled peanut butter and fluff. It didn’t matter if it was 1pm or 1am, whenever her children had sleepovers or late nights, Janice would be in the kitchen making food and making sure everyone was comfortable and fed. She never let anyone leave the house hungry.

She is survived by her husband: Michael, family of sister Maren Downing, family of Dianne and Tony Handy, Patsy Stetson and her family; Peggy and Dick Keach and family, Buzz and Deborah Carpenter and family, Bob Carpenter and family, family of Billy Carpenter, family of sister-in-law Marie; Janice’s children: Mikey and Eva Hemond and their children, Mikey and Evan; Mark and Tara Hemond and their children, Merrick and Saylor; Michelle Parseghian and her partner, James Parenteau, and Michelle’s children, Dante and Damien, Melissa and Jamie Murphy and their children, Howie and Harry, Daughter-in-law Jennifer Hemond and her children, Paige and Mia; and Jeremy Hemond.

Janice was predeceased by her son, James Hemond, parents George and Mary Carpenter; sister Maren Downing; sister Dianne and Tony Handy, brother, Billy Carpenter, nephews Dennis Comeau and Joseph Carpenter, sister-in-law, Marie Hemond and her daughter Meg Metras,
