Jayne Rivera

July 13, 1958 — April 18, 2018

Jayne Angela Rivera (Gavine) passed away on April 18, 2018 in her home in Lyndonville, VT.  She was born in Bishop’s Stortford, Herts Essex in the UK on July 13, 1958.  Jayne lived a life filled with grace and a determined nature.  She was a very independent and curious soul, always wanting to learn, grow and read.  Jayne loved nature.   She called it her church and would go to nature if anything was troubling her.  Jayne loved to kayak, garden, dance and travel.  She was always up for a road trip. Her passion for history and genealogy lead her to explore her family roots as far back as the early 1700s.

Jayne had a way of creating community wherever she went.  She found great pleasure in camping with her two children and friends.  She often gathered with friends for a night of good food, plenty of laughter and a game of Hand and Foot.  She loved cooking and decorating.  Her spiritual nature inspired her to learn Reiki and become a healer.  She was a Reiki Master.

When Jayne was 30 years old, she moved to the US.  She became a hair stylist in 1974 and enjoyed this lifelong profession on ‘both sides of the pond.’  She was a Paul Mitchell educator for five years.  Her passion was to educate her fellow hair stylists and to promote the profession in any way that she was able.  She was a manager for JC Penney Styling Salon and later was self-employed at Jan’s Beauty Supply and Salon in Lyndonville until her illness made it impossible for her to work.

Jayne leaves behind her two sons, Michael J. Rivera and Nicholas P. Rivera, her brother Peter Gavine, his wife Jane and a niece, Isabella.  Her family in England includes her mother, Cynthia Gavine, her very special Uncle Reg and Aunt Shirley Parker, cousins Steve, Glenn, Samantha, Kathryn and Philip.  She had many friends on ‘both sides of the pond’ including Michele and Nick Wood, Elaine and Ben Bablinski, her childhood friend Julie McLeod in the UK.  Her dearest friends in the US include Robin Jacobs, Lori Parsons, Nancy Hogue, Kelly Blair, Judith Patoine, Bev Keenan, Sherry Carbone and, now deceased, Roland Searl.  These people were her rock in her latest months of life, spending time caring for her, running errands and gathering regularly for lots of laughter over a game of cards.

There will be a celebration of life held on May 13th from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM starting at the north end of Willoughby Lake and proceeding to the south end where some of Jayne’s ashes will be spread.

To Those I Love

When I am gone, release me, let me go-

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears.

Be thankful for our beautiful years.

I gave to you my love.  You can only guess

How much you gave me in happiness…

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it’s time I traveled alone.

So, grieve for a while for me, if grieve you must,

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It’s only for a time that we must part,

So, bless the memories within your heart.

I won’t be far away, for life goes on.

So, if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near

And if you listen with your heart, you’ll hear

All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone

I will greet you with a smile and say---

“Welcome Home!”
