John H Conway, 72, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, following a period of declining health at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife, Andrea, and his family.
John was born on September 15, 1954, in Rutland, Vermont, to the late John and Mildred (Page) Conway. He grew up in Pittsford, Vermont.
He started working on farms at a youthful age. After graduating from Otter Valley High School with the Class of 1973, he worked at various places before starting a career of thirty-three years driving tractor-trailer. During those years he worked for FW Whitcomb and Wilk Paving.
He met his wife Andrea, while working for FW Whitcomb. In 1999 he moved to Lyndonville to be with Andrea and her daughter, Taylor. Once settled went to work driving truck for Twin State Sitework where he worked until 2011. He then did security for Deter Security. In 2014 he started Turf 10 Lawn Care to keep busy during the summer and continued running the business until his passing. This is where his love for John Deere began.
For close to thirty years he worked for Burke Mountain maintaining the roads, parking lots and helped with security. He enjoyed working at Burke. From the time he started at the mountain until he took his last breath, he dedicated his life to his job at Burke. Was always watching the weather to stay ahead of the storms. One New Year’s Eve, John and Andrea were at the mountain plowing.
On September 28, 2013, John married Andrea Dawson after many years together and made their home in Lyndonville.
He enjoyed the rodeo, fishing, camping, dancing, NASCAR (Joey Langano), traveling and just going for a ride. It often took him to the Rutland area to see family. Over the years, they traveled to Tennessee, West Virginia, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, and Colorado. While in North Carolina he visited the Penske Shop. He enjoyed watching the crew build one of Joey’s cars.
John was a quiet and caring man. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He also enjoyed his family and especially his stepdaughter, Taylor, and his grandson, Holden.
He leaves behind his wife, Andrea, stepdaughter, Taylor Dawson, and daughter, Megan Violett, and three grandchildren, Holden Dawson, McKenzie and Noah Violett. Along with his sisters, Retha Edwards and Joan Murray, his brothers, Charles Conway (Brigid), Robert Conway (Helen). His wife’s siblings, Susan Dawson Karlson (Eric), Hank Dawson (Karole), Karen Minch (Paul), and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mildred Conway, in-laws, Rufus and Jacqueline Dawson, whom he cared deeply.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 1pm-5pm at the Burke Mountain Hotel.
