Joy Duford

St. Johnsbury, VT: Joy Ann Duford, 82, of Pearl Street in St. Johnsbury passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. 

Joy was born in Claremont, NH on February 21, 1941, to the late John and Nelly (Carter) Ducharme. She was raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, eventually settling in St. Johnsbury in the mid-1960s. 

Over the years she worked at the meat packing plant in Woodsville, NH, as a waitress in Lyndonville, VT, and as a staff member at the Hilltopper restaurant in St. Johnsbury, VT. Joy spent her time watching game shows on TV, going out with friends, listening to music, and dancing. She especially enjoyed Elvis Presley. 

Joy leaves behind her beloved children, Jim Counter of St. Johnsbury, Donna Duford of St. Johnsbury, Diane Goss of St. Johnsbury, and Deb Levine of South Bend, IN; her brother, John Hamel and wife Debbie of Claremont, NH; her sisters, Betty Counter of St. Johnsbury, and Shirley McNutt and partner Richard Smead of Weathersfield, VT, sister-in-law: Annette Ducharme of Amherst and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents, Joy was predeceased by her son, Donald Duford, Jr.; brothers, Robert Ducharme and Dean Rexford; granddaughter Alicia; and grandson Jacob.  

A funeral service will be held for Joy at 2 PM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT.  A graveside ceremony will take place on May 15, 2024 at 10am at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
