Joyce Carolyn Racenet

Danville, VT: Joyce Carolyn Racenet, age 95, passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

Joyce was born in Waterford, VT, on March 29, 1930, daughter to the late Rupert J. and Grace (Rollins) Salt. She attended school in Passumpsic, VT, and graduated from the St. Johnsbury Academy, member of the Class of 1948. She was a 1952 graduate of the University of Vermont. Joyce started her teaching career as a freshman English teacher at the Academy in September 1952. She taught full-time until June of 1957. In 1955 she and J. Ernest Racenet were married and took time off for fifteen years to be an at home parent. Although she did continue to substitute teach during that time. In 1972 Joyce returned to SJA full-time and retired in 1989.

After retirement Ernie and Joyce kept busy traveling, taking care of their home and land in Danville, attending sports events at SJA and being a part of their grandchildren’s activities. They both enjoyed crafts and displayed knitted and woodworking items at craft fairs and flea markets. They enjoyed 67 years together. She was preceded by her husband: J. Ernest Racnet in 2023, by her parents: Rupert J. Salt and Grace Rollins Salt, her brother: Albert Salt, sister-in-law: Susan M. Salt, her sister: Edith Salt Carleton and brother-in-law: Otis Carleton, her sister and brother-in-law: Evelyn & Gordon Seymour and sister and brother-in-law: Amelia & Donald Bradey.

Joyce is survived by her daughter: Laurel Racenet of Poinciana, FL, her son: Craig Racenet (Colleen) of Danville, Paul Racenet (Rebecca) of Wasilla, AK, her grandchildren: Naomi Racenet (Eric Knopf) of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Mathew Racenet (Aleha) of St. Johnsbury, VT, Zachary Racenet (Cristi) of Auburn, MA, Emily Racenet of Wasilla, AK, Caitlin Racenet of Wasilla, AK, Ashley McNearney of Spokane, WA, 9 great-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 5PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury. Friends may call on the family from 4PM until the time of Services. Burial will be held in the summer at the Passumpsic Cemetery.
