Keith MacPherson, Jr.

January 27, 1944 — May 4, 2026

Keith MacPherson, Jr.

Keith Wells MacPherson JR, known to most as "Terry," to many as "Mac" or "Mr. Mac," and to the even more luckier ones, "Dad," passed away peacefully at his home in Monroe, NH on Monday, May 4th, the first day of National Teacher Appreciation Week. Terry was born on January 27, 1944, the son of Keith Wells MacPherson and Rita Metevier MacPherson. He lived the majority of his life in St. Johnsbury, VT, before moving to Monroe, NH in 2008.

Terry was a 1962 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. Following that, he served in the Vermont Army National Guard and then later graduated from Lyndon Teachers' College. He taught for several years in the Concord, VT School District. Following his time working in Concord, Mac took a change of pace and managed Johnathan's, a bar and night club in St. Johnsbury. There he made many connections who became lifetime friends. On September 1st, 1990, "Mr. Mac," as many would soon learn to call him, started his career at St. Johnsbury Academy as a Mathematics Teacher. He would also go on to be a Driver's Education instructor for a number of years. In June of 2009, he retired from teaching. After quickly realizing his time at the Academy was not complete, he returned at the end of the summer as a paraeducator. He would continue this for many years, finally retiring for good in June of 2022. Through his many years at the Academy, "Mr. Mac" worked selflessly to ensure he was there for all of his students; he did anything in his power to make them succeed and discover their full potential. He cherished his lifelong friendships made with many of the faculty and staff of the Academy.

Terry loved so much about life. He was often taciturn, but possessed of a wry wit, a true Vermonter! He was also a lover of the outdoors. Hunting and especially fishing were skills he learned during his very early years, which brought him joy his entire life. He had endless "yarns" to tell about his fishing exploits. He was also an amateur "birder," where he often sought out to identify an unusual avian visitor. A lover of all birds, notably the Cardinal, the Chickadee and his own bird "Taleet," a Cockatiel.

He was especially proud of his children and his grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Kim Barnett, of Las Vegas, NV; Erika MacPherson of Fairbanks, AK; Krista Ash (Matthew) of Waterford, VT; Kregg MacPherson of Monroe, NH and Kerri Gallant (Brent) of Rumford, ME. He is also survived by several grandchildren, a great-grandson; his sister, Sandra Jacon (Robert) of Pittstown, NY; Cathy MacPherson of St. Johnsbury and his cherished bird Taleet

The family would like to thank all who were involved in providing Terry outstanding care. Thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff at Littleton Regional Healthcare, his caretaker Barbara Davio and more recently, the Nurses and Staff at North Country Home Health and Hospice.

Friends may call on the family Thursday, May 21, 2026, 5-7pm, at Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street, St. Johnsbury, VT. A Memorial Service will be held in June; details will follow.
