Kenneth Deth, Jr.

Kenneth F. Deth, Jr., age 67, of West Burke, VT died in the early hours of Monday, May 27, 2024, with his family by his side after a short battle with cancer.

Kenny was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on February 25, 1957, to the late Kenneth Sr. and Elaine (Smith) Deth.  He was raised in East Haven, VT and graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1975.  On November 27, 1976, Kenny married his high school sweetheart, Jane Drew, and shared 34 years of marriage with her before her death in May of 2010.  Kenny worked for over 20 years at Burke Lumber as a saw operator.  He worked the next 23 years as a machinist at NSA Industries and retired in 2023.

You could see the pride in Kenny’s eyes when he talked about his children and especially when he talked about his granddaughter.  He was a true family man; someone you could call on to always be there for you.  Kenny knew what hard work was and taught his children that you had to work for the things you wanted.  He was a man of few words and enjoyed the little things in life: driving the backroads looking for wildlife, sitting by the campfire, playing UNO with his granddaughter Meghan, spending time with family, puttering around on his tractor, corn roasts, collecting antiques, and driving around at Christmas time with Meghan looking at the lights. 

Survivors include his daughter: Rose Achilles and husband William of West Burke; granddaughter: Meghan Achilles; brothers: David Deth of East Haven, VT and Rupert Deth of Sutton, VT; brothers-in-law: Michael Drew and wife Kim, and Duane Drew and wife Kim; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife: Jane Deth; a son: Kevin Deth; his parents: Elaine and Kenneth Deth, Sr; brothers: James, Walter, Raymond, and Albert Deth; sisters: Jeannette Poor, Dorothy Bingham, and Roberta Hinton; his in laws: Marilyn (Baird) and Leon Drew.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, 11:00AM at Hillside Cemetery in West Burke, VT.  There will be no calling hours before the service, but the family would love to visit afterwards with friends and family at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, June 1, 2024, beginning at 12 noon at their home, 2502 US Route 5, West Burke, VT.
