Celebrating the Life of Larry Cormier

Danville, VT – Larry Cormier, 73, of Cormier Road, passed away peacefully at his home on the early morning of Sunday, June 22, 2025, with his devoted wife at his side. Larry was not only a loving father and cherished friend but also a spirited soul whose fun-loving nature left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Born on September 7, 1951, in St. Johnsbury, VT, Larry was the son of the late Martin E. and Jean (Downer) Cormier and spent nearly all his life in Danville. A graduate of the St. Johnsbury Trade School Class of 1969, he embraced life—whether he was hunting, fishing, working on old cars, snowmobiling, or tackling four-wheeler adventures. His energy was infectious, turning every family camping trip and every shared hobby into a joyful celebration of life. He was especially passionate about helping his children explore their interests, from guiding Misty in her riding lessons to supporting her as she prepared for horse shows.

Larry’s long and proud career as a truck driver with Northern Gas—and later with Vermont Aerospace—reflected his hardworking nature and love for the open road. Even as he eventually retired, his journey on life's highways continued to inspire those who counted him as a friend and guide.

Larry is lovingly remembered by his wife of over 46 years, Brenda Jean (Church) of Danville, and his three daughters: Shelia Lemieux (and husband Todd) of Claremont, NH; Diane May of Lower Waterford, VT, and Maine; and Misty Hourigan (and husband Sean) of South Burlington, VT. He also leaves behind his brother, Wayne Cormier (with wife Carol of Lancaster, NH); his sister-in-law, Judy Powell (and her husband Jack) of St. Johnsbury; his mother-in-law, Caroline Church of Lyndonville; five treasured grandchildren—Damian, Nicholas, Noel Little, Tyler, and Emma Cota; three great-grandchildren—Ace, Miles, and Levi; and many loving nieces and nephews. Larry was predeceased by his siblings Jennie Gilbert, Martin Cormier, Jr., and Elaine Cormier-Harris.

In true Larry fashion, life was meant to be celebrated. Friends are invited to share their fond memories and stories during visiting hours from 6–8 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the Sayles Funeral Home, 525 Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, VT. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, with a ceremony at the Funeral Home and an immediate burial at Danville Green Cemetery on Brainerd Street, officiated by Rev. Diane Raymond. A memorial luncheon will follow the burial at the cemetery.

Larry’s legacy as a fun-loving dad, an adventurous spirit, and a beacon for friends and family will forever inspire us to embrace every moment with laughter and love. His life reminds us all that the journey is as important as the destination, and that a true celebration of life lingers in the hearts of those who carry on his memory.
