Phil Soucy

Louis P. Soucy (“Phil”), 96, of Apex, North Carolina, passed away on September 22, 2023 after a long illness. He was born on December 28, 1926 to Arthur and Marie Jeanne (Bosse) Soucy in Van Buren, Maine.

Phil grew up in Van Buren, the second youngest of 9 children. At the age of 16, he moved to Bristol, Connecticut, where he completed high school and trained to become an electrician. He entered the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II and was on Liberty Ships, delivering supplies, and even livestock such as cattle, to Europe. After the War, he returned to Bristol, where he met his future wife Dixie Daigle. They were married in 1949, and eventually moved from Bristol to St. Johnsbury, Vermont, where he worked for Reliance Electric Co until 1992. He became a licensed Master Electrician in the State of Vermont, and became a part-time self-employed electrician after he retired. While his children were growing up, he was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for all of the years that his sons were Scouts and for many years thereafter, where he provided guidance and leadership to many boys in St. Johnsbury.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. After his children were grown, he and his wife took up square dancing, and were members of the local Square Dance club in St. Johnsbury.

Phil was a devoted husband to Dixie, having recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary. He was a loving father to Philip (Peg) Soucy, Donna (Edwin “Chris”) Wheeler, Brian (Sherry) Soucy, and Christine (Dennis) Tackett. He was also a cherished grandfather and great grandfather, and is survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his 8 siblings, and one grandchild.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
