Madeline Douglas Easter, 92, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital.
Madeline was born on September 4, 1933, in St. Johnsbury to Victor and Catherine (Radford) Douglas. She was raised in Vermont, graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy, where she returned to work as Registrar for 22 years after her children were grown. She married James Easter, Sr. on October 9, 1952, sharing 43 years together before his passing on May 19, 1996.
Madeline was an active congregant for many years at Grace United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was loved by students and her colleagues at The Academy during her tenure there. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In her free time, you could find her at her home reading a good book.
Madeline is survived by her children: James Easter, Jr., Stephen (Sandy Hudson) Easter, Catherine Stipanovic, and Shelley Easter; grandchildren Matthew & Sarah, and great-grandson Wyatt. She was predeceased by her parents, Victor & Catherine Douglas, husband James Easter, Sr., her six siblings, and her son-in-law Thomas Stipanovic.
A graveside committal service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the spring, which will be announced at a later date.
