Marc Poulin

June 12, 1928 — March 8, 2019

Marc A. Poulin, 90, passed away at The Surrogate Son Hospice Home in Concord on Friday evening, March 8, 2019, with his loved ones at his side.

Marc was born in St. Theophile in the Province of Quebec, Canada, on June 12, 1928, one of nine born to the late Victor and Blanche (Grondin) Poulin.  In his early years Marc worked for his father in North Troy; the family moved to St. Johnsbury in 1948.  Shortly afterwards he married his sweetheart from Magog, Mariette Marilda Bolduc, on August 1, 1951, and they took residence in St. Johnsbury.

Logging was Marc and his family’s life and livelihood, although he certainly had many other endeavors beside logging including building houses with his Dad. He was affectionately known as ‘the poor logger’, said with a very heavy French accent!  He and his neighbor Ed Hahr were longtime friends and took hunting trips on several occasions.  His family fondly remembers his sense of humor and the many pranks he (and Ed) pulled over the years.

Marc and Mariette enjoyed many years wintering in Brooksville, Florida.  After Mariette’s passing, a home was graciously made for him by Linda and Paul for the last four years; there he received wonderful care. He particularly enjoyed the pool and sitting out in the sun sipping his favorite cocktail until the family recently returned him home.

At the age of 70 Marc embarked on building the Kirby Country Club now owned by his son Daniel.  He belonged to St. John the Evangelist Church, the Knights of Columbus Sheridan Council #421 where he was a 4th Degree knight, and was a longtime member of the Elks B.P.O.E. #1343.

He is survived by 6 children: Richard Poulin and wife Lynn of Statesboro GA, Michael Poulin and wife Joan of Littleton NH, Lucie Poulin-Pristow of Kirby, Linda Entriken and husband Paul of Brooksville FL, Carol Perreault and husband Leon of St. Johnsbury, Daniel Poulin and Kelly Smith of Kirby; 19 grandchildren: Eric and Troy; Angela and Kaitlyn; Christie, Kenny, Tara, and Ryan; Jason, Karrie and Kevin; Jaimie, Andrew, Christopher, Matthew and Jonathan; Little Marc, Christa and Jessica; all his great-grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Huguette “Marie” Biathrow of Largo FL, Yolande “Sr. Suzanne” Poulin of Bridgeport CT; also by Mariette’s extended family, nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by three sisters: Louisette Boldoc, Raymonde Leroux, and Gisele Lapierre; 3 brothers: Jean, Gerald, and Jean Marc as an infant.

A Mass Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. John the Evangelist on Winter Street in St. Johnsbury, with Rev. Fr. Karl Hahr as celebrant.

Friends may call on the family Friday evening the 15th from 5-8PM.  An Elks service will be conducted at 7:30PM.

Burial will take place at 10AM on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on St. John Street.

Memorial donations could be directed to The Good Shepherd School, 121 Maple St., St. Johnsbury VT 05819.

The family gives a big “thank you” to Paul and Linda for making Marc’s end of life years special in Florida.  He was a blessed man to have such loving care.
