Marguerite Ellen Cassady of Lyndonville passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 at the age of 85. She had resided at Maple Lane Nursing Home since February of this year. Marge was born in Lyndonville on May 26, 1930, the daughter of Elroy and Eleanor (Wells) Gero. Both her parents died in 1985. She attended East Haven River School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Lyndon Institute in the class of 1947. After high school, Marge resided in St. Johnsbury and worked for C.H. Goss Co. until 1950, when she moved to Troy, NY. In 1958, she returned to Lyndonville and began a career at Vermont Tap and Die Company as a bookkeeper and secretary until the late 1970s. Marge then worked as a bookkeeper at various area businesses, including Vermont Asbestos Group, Mardon Industries, Greenwood Sales & Service, and Lyndonville Agway. She was also a court reporter transcriptionist. On August 18, 1972, she and Lawrence J. Cassady were married. They built a log home on Shadow Lake in Glover and lived there seasonally, then year round, for several years before moving back to Lyndonville. After Larry passed away on March 11, 2007, Marge moved to The Cardinal's Nest, then Lyndon Terrace apartments, in Lyndonville. A longtime, avid bowler at Sunset Lanes in Lyndonville and Gold Crown Lanes in St. Johnsbury, Marge made lifelong friends and attended many bowling tournaments across the country. She was a longtime league secretary and, in 2004, Marge was inducted into the St. Johnsbury Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame for meritorious service. She also enjoyed quilting, knitting, and watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Marge is survived by her son Doug Graham and wife Betty May of Sunapee, NH; one grandchild, Zach, of Grantham, NH; step-daughters Joanne Hartley of Nixa, MO and Cheryl Lowman of Barkhamstead, CT and their families; two brothers: Kenneth Gero of Albuquerque, NM, Roy Gero and wife Millie Nault-Gero of Barton; two sisters: Lucille Casteel of Valrico, FL, Patricia Forget and husband Butch of Lyndonville; nieces and nephews. A sister Dorothy Houghton and her husband Philip and brother-in-law Carleton Casteel also predeceased her. Services will be held at the United Methodist Church, 100 Church Street in Lyndonville on Tuesday, November 10, at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lyndon Institute Alumni Association, PO Box 135, Lyndon Center VT 05850 or the Maple Lane Memorial Fund, 60 Maple Lane, Barton VT 05822 (please write Marge's name in the memo line on the check).
