Mark Edward Handy, 62, of St. Johnsbury, VT died suddenly on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at his home.

Mark, the son of Michael and Betty (Hanley) Handy, was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on May 5, 1962.  He spent his early years growing up in Brant Rock, MA and always loved summer and holiday visits to St. Johnsbury.   When he was 16, his family moved to California, where he lived for 9 years.  

It was on his first trip in many years back to St. Johnsbury in the summer of 1987, when he met his bride-to-be, Cathy Dopp.  He moved back to St. J in 1988, and they were married in 1997. 

Mark loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and camping.  He was very skilled at woodworking and furniture making.   He made many pieces for family members, which were treasured.  Until the last few years, Mark loved to socialize, enjoying time with friends.   He had a great sense of humor, liked to make jokes and laugh.  He loved it when he could make someone else laugh.  Family was the most important thing to Mark.  He would take any opportunity to be with family especially when extended and widespread family could all come together.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years: Cathy Handy of St. Johnsbury; father: Michael Handy and wife Diane of Southbridge, MA; stepson: Marc McCullock of St. Johnsbury; brother: Richard Handy and wife Ann and nephew Chris of Franklin, MA;  several aunts and uncles:  Linda Handy Sparks of Westmore, VT; Netcy Handy and wife Barbara of Georgetown TX: Jeff Handy and wife Terri of Gainesville, FL;  Andi Handy of Georgetown TX; Neva and husband Carroll Macie of Luneburg; Ed Timson and wife Linda of Lunenburg;  Marie Paradis and husband Richard of Greenville NC; sister-in-law Betty Stewart of St. Johnsbury, brother-in-law Ernest Dopp and wife Diane of Bellflower CA, sister-in-law Carol and husband Jeff Hale of Danville; as well as nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends..

He was predeceased by his mother: Betty Handy and his nephew Alex Handy.

A celebration of life will be held at the St Johnsbury Elks Lodge on Saturday, June 8th 1-4 pm.
