Mary Gorham

Mary Aileen Gorham suddenly passed away on March 2, 2024, after suffering a heart attack at NVRH.

Mary was born May 1, 1948, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to Edwin MacLean & Hazel Crowdis Maclean. She was the 2nd of their three children:  George, Mary, and Patricia.

After the premature death of her father, her family moved to Massachusetts and Mary later became a U.S. Citizen in 1965.  In 1972 she married the love of her life,Howard Gorham, and they raised their family in Kirby, Vermont.  Howard & Mary have four daughters: Stacey, Carrie, Shiloh, and Cortney.  Howard & Mary were married 51 years.

Mary was proud of her Scottish heritage and carried her love for Cape Breton until the day she died.  She exhibited an early love for animals, always holding a space in her heart and home for dogs and cats who needed rescue.  She loved to watch Animal Planet and Dr. Pol.

Mary sacrificed her own wants and needs to travel and visit those she loved. She loved and lived for her children and ten grandchildren.  Her focus was constantly on each of them.  At home, she could be caught buying gifts specific to those who lived away, and she was often at the post office sending off a package to her grandchildren.  When she traveled to visit those she loved, she would return with gifts specific to those at home.

Mary is survived and will be missed by her husband, Howard Gorham, her children, Stacey Hunter (Idaho), Carrie Yancey (New Mexico), Shiloh Gorham (Vermont), and Cortney Haws (Idaho),16 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin MacLean & Hazel Crowdis Maclean and her brother George Maclean.

In Mary’s request, her final resting place will partially be at the MacLean grave site in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada and at her home in Kirby, Vermont.
