Michael “Mikey” David Legendre went to Heaven on August 25, 2026.
Mike was born on February 14, 1960, in St. Johnsbury, to David & Sheila (Montgomery) Legendre. He graduated from Danville High School in 1978, and he studied building trades at St. Johnsbury Academy. He further developed his skills working alongside his father, Dave Legendre, at Legendre and Son’s Builders, where they built homes, businesses, and other buildings throughout the area.
His first job was at Quality Motors in St. Johnsbury, where he worked alongside his brother, Kendall. Mike had a lifelong love of cars and anything that would go fast! He loved working on them, building them, racing them, and he built his own race car- #6. He said the experience he had with racing, building his race car with many helping hands, racing at Riverside Speedway, with the crowd that would come and cheer him on, was an experience he would cherish all his life.
Mike was a talented carpenter and a true master craftsman. He had a remarkable ability to build, repair, and create just about anything. When Mike started his own business, Michael Legendre Home Improvements, "no job too small," it was a dream come true; he shined! He was proud of the workmanship he did in people's homes; this made him very happy. They were amazed at his expertise and unique touches that only he could do. He would say, "That makes this work all worth it." The knowledge and craftsmanship he gained through those years became a defining part of who he was. He took great pride in understanding how things worked and finding a way to make them better.
Michael was the kind of man who could look at almost any problem and find a solution, often using whatever happened to be within reach. Whether it was a simple coat hanger used to repair an exhaust or turning a handful of materials into something completely new, he could fix nearly anything. His hands were rarely still, and there was always something being built, repaired, or improved.
His hands built more than just things. He built the home he, Robin, and Brandon shared for many years, creating a place filled with memories, love, and family. That home was a reflection of him—hardworking, capable, and determined.
Mike was a hardworking, devoted, and incredibly resourceful man whose greatest pride in life was his family. He loved his wife, Robin, and his son, Brandon, more than anything in the world, and he never missed an opportunity to let them know how proud he was of them.
Despite tremendous discomfort and significant mobility challenges in his later years, Michael continued to push forward for an incredibly long time. He was not a man who easily gave up. His perseverance and determination were a testament to the strength of his character.
Above all else, Michael was a husband and a father. His family was his greatest accomplishment and his greatest source of pride. Though his loss leaves an enormous emptiness, his legacy lives on in the home he built, the countless home improvements he did for others, the things he repaired, the skills he passed down, the memories he created, and, most importantly, the love he gave. He will be missed more than words can express and remembered for the rest of our lives.
Mike is survived by: his beloved wife, Robin Legendre; son, Brandon Legendre; parents, David and Sheila Legendre, Salisbury, NC; brother, Kendall Legendre (Susan Legendre), China Grove, NC; sister, Shelley Legendre Martin (Michael Martin), Danville, VT; brother, Scott Legendre, Sunapee, NH; nieces, Jaselin Drown, Kari Legendre Byers, Alissa Martin; nephews, Jadan Drown, Steven Legendre, Alex Martin, Andrew Ballantine & Alec Legendre; as well as many friends.
