Myrle Leithead

October 5, 1918 — July 17, 2015

With her family at her side, Mrs. Myrle Leithead, longtime Cross St./Federal St. resident of St. Johnsbury, passed away very peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2015 at The Pines at the age of 96. She had resided there since November of last year.
She was born and grew up on the farm in Wolcott, Vermont on Oct. 5, 1918, the oldest of ten children born of Bernard and Myrle (Woodmansee) Davis. Five of her siblings predeceased her: Gerald Boardman, Elizabeth Boardman Rich, Wendell Boardman, Eugene Wheeler, and Clara Mae Wheeler Grabowski.
For the past 15 years the Leitheads spent much of the summer camping at Sugar Ridge Campground in Danville where she was known as 'Gram'. Previously the Leitheads had traveled with the Good Sam's Club and camped at various campgrounds throughout New England, even Nova Scotia. Mrs. Leithead was a very active member and past President of the VFW Auxiliary Post #793.
Her husband Bob, her devoted husband of sixty years, survives her as does five of her children. She was predeceased by two sons, Walter and Richard Whitcomb, a granddaughter Barbara Jean Whitcomb, a grandson Rance Peck, and a great-grandson Chad Lumbra. She had a special relationship with her son-in-law Charles 'Bob' Fenoff who also predeceased her.
Surviving are five of her children: Bernard Whitcomb and Judy Ogata of California, Janet Fenoff of St. Johnsbury Center, Jean Peck and Herb Horst of Florida, Judy Lamont and husband Frank of Florida, Gary Leithead and wife Bonnie of Lyndonville; 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by four siblings: her sister Eleanor Skinner, living at The Canterbury Inn in St. Johnsbury, brother Floyd Wheeler of California, brother Carroll Wheeler and wife Lois of St. Johnsbury, sister Karlene Smith of both Shadow Lake in Glover and Florida; Bob's sister Barbara Ticehurst of White River Jct.; nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery this Monday, July 20 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Kirk Thompson officiating. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
The care Myrle received at The Pines was wonderful. It would be very appropriate, therefore, to have memorial contributions, marked for the 'Resident Activity Fund', directed to The Pines, 601 Red Village Rd., Lyndonville VT 05851.
