Nancy Jean Aiken (Bickford) age 81, passed away surrounded by her family on September 13, 2025, in Burke Hollow, Vermont.
Born on August 6, 1944, in Wichendon, MA, Nancy grew up in Newport Center, VT on a small family farm. She attended a one room school until eighth grade and then went to Newport Center High School. She graduated on June 16th, 1963.
Nancy married Ronald Aiken on May 9, 1964. They shared 58 years together before Ronald passed away in 2022. Together they built a life based on love and a genuine respect for each other’s strengths. Nancy was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She was her family’s greatest strength. Nancy had a heart that knew no bounds. She loved everyone unconditionally and gave selflessly to her family.
Nancy’s other great passion was teaching. She taught at Burke Town School for 50 years. In that time she touched the lives of many children. Nancy never met a child she didn’t love and connect with. Even in adulthood students would reach out to her for support and understanding. After her retirement she would see the school bus pass by and say, ”I wish I was back teaching.”
Nancy is survived by her sister, Joyce Bickford; daughter Patricia (Aiken) Powers and husband Tom; son Ronald Aiken, Jr. and wife Melissa; grandchildren Nicholas Powers, Amber (Powers) Flood, Nathan Powers, Curtis Powers, Jeremiah Aiken, Anna Aiken, Abigail Aiken; great grandchildren Felix Powers, Damius Flood, Jonathan Flood, Isabella Flood, brother-in-law Donald Charland and sisters-in-law Shirley Aiken and Dorothy Aiken.
Nancy is now reunited with her loving husband Ronald. She was predeceased by her parents, Warren and Estella (Hoadley) Bickford and many dear brothers and sisters-in-law.
Nancy gave such love to all around her. Each day spent with her was joyous. How fortunate we were to have shared our lives with Nancy…her caring, her support, her love for all fellow beings was an inspiration we shall long remember.
