Nicholas Coon

Concord, VT: Nicholas Thomas Coon, age 68, of East Main Street in Concord, VT, passed at home unexpectedly on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Nick was born in Niagara Falls, NY, on August 1, 1957, son to the late Eugene Thomas and Beatrice (Yazlovasky) Coon. He grew up in Alberta Canada and later in Omaha, Nebraska, moving to Rhode Island in the late 70’s when he began working on fishing vessels. For over 20 years he worked as a Lobsterman setting out of Galilee in Narragansett well as New Bedford, MA. Galilee is where he met Kathleen Faucher at Stonington Seafood. He went on to become Captain of the Fishing Vessel, “Seahorse” as well as the “Tommy Monroe.” On February 14, 1990 he married his valentine, Kathleen, and they moved to Vermont in 2003. In 2004 he retired from lobstering. Nick was able to find employment with Austin Construction in VT and stay with them for over 20 years retiring in 2025. This is when he took an interest in prospecting and panning for gold. He made many friends at Austin’s and kept many close relationships with those in Rhode Island. During the slow months in Vermont, he helped sugar at the Austin Sugarhouse in Granby, which Nick helped to build. He lived and breathed the outdoors, loved to fish with rod & reel, ice fish and took up fly-fishing as well. He hunted all tags and really enjoyed rabbit hunting. In his younger years, he really enjoyed the sun on his face while riding motorcycles with his brother Rick. Nick was an all-around awesome human being who would literally give you the shirt off his back and will be dearly missed. Growing up he and his brothers loved taking care of and spending time with each other and that never stopped. They grew up the sons of a professional Golden Gloves Champ, who instilled in them a respect for family, friends and nature. Obvious to say that he loved his family and grandchildren, teaching them how to fish and hunt. He took his young family camping which later turn into Glamping with Kathy. He was a great storyteller and told 68 years’ worth of them!

Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Kathy Coon of Concord, VT, three children: Dena Lamont of South Carolina, Nicholas T. Coon, II and his wife, and Shaune Faucher and wife, Samantha, of Cumberland, RI, his brother Rick Coon and fiancé, Brenda, of Bradford, RI, his half-sister: Jeannie Ballard of IN, his half-brother Christopher Roy Mork of Cremona, Canada, his six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother William “Bill” Coon.
