Patricia G. Nelson

                Lyndonville & Formerly Sheffield, VT: Patricia G. Mae Nelson, age 83, died at the Woodridge Health & Rehab in Berlin, VT, Sunday morning, January 28, 2024, where she has resided since November of 2023.

                Patti was born in Lyndonville, VT, on July 6, 1940, daughter to the late Leon Harold, Sr. and Ruth Annette (Newell) Gilman.  She grew up mainly in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndon Institute with the Class of 1958.  She went to Lyndon Teacher’s College and taught 8^th grade at Miller’s Run and Lyndon Town Schools and was a longtime member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church.  She married John T. Nelson and shared 60 years at the time of his passing on July 13, 2016.  Patti loved the sun and enjoyed many travels to Maine and Florida and was able to visit Spain with her granddaughter, Elysha. She was an avid reader, especially enjoying crime novels, religiously solved the daily crosswords and spent time putting together photo albums of the family and the many places she visited.

                Patti is survived by her son: Michael Nelson (Julie) of Orleans, 3 grandchildren: Elysha Thurston (Matthew) of Barre, VT, David “Ben” Nelson of Orleans, Danielle Nelson of Orleans, and a bonus granddaughter: Tricia Eckhardt of Barton, 7 great-grandchildren: Lilah, Grady, Reed, Jamison, Elijah, Findlay, Winter and several nieces and nephews. In her time at Woodridge Nursing Home, she "adopted" many additional family members who knew her simply as "Nan". Her family is forever grateful to the wonderful nursing staff at Woodridge who cared for her like one of their own. 

                She was predeceased by her daughter: Terri Nelson in 2020, her grandson: Christopher Eastman in 2022 and siblings: Leon H. Gilman, Jr, Dorothy Nelson and Charles Osmore Gilman.

                A Graveside Service will be held at 10AM on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Lyndon Center Cemetery in Lyndonville. There will be no calling hours.
