Paul Joseph Charron, age 74, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury on Saturday, June 6, 2026, following injuries sustained while traveling in South Dakota.
Paul was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, on July 30, 1951, son of the late Roland Joseph and Katherine Iola (Keneson) Charron. He was raised and educated in Lyndonville and graduated with the Lyndon Institute Class of 1970. On February 16, 1974, he married Evelyn Mae “Evie” Degreenia, the love of his life and best friend. Together they shared 52 years of marriage built on faith, devotion, laughter, and unwavering love while raising their two daughters and creating a lifetime of cherished family memories.
Paul was a devoted husband, loving father and father-in-law, proud grandfather, and faithful Catholic whose deep faith guided the way he lived his life each day. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish/St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church as well as a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was not only practiced, but also shared through his steady presence, generosity, and the love he showed to family, friends, and strangers alike.
Paul supported his family through 38 years at Vermont Tap & Die, where he worked as a machine operator until his retirement in 2014. He was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and the quiet pride he took in providing for those he loved.
His joy for life was contagious, and his unmistakable laugh could light up a room and bring smiles to everyone around him. Nothing meant more to Paul than his family, and they always knew they could count on him. He was well known for his sense of humor and classic dad jokes - the kind delivered with perfect timing and usually followed by Paul laughing the hardest at them himself.
Paul enjoyed holidays and the everyday moments that were filled with laughter and stories. He was especially proud of being a grandfather to his four grandchildren who knew him as a steady, loving presence, which brought him immense happiness and pride. He loved spending time with them making lifelong memories.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and some of his happiest moments were spent boating at camp on Shadow Lake. Whether around the cribbage board or sharing stories by the campfire, Paul had a gift for making ordinary moments unforgettable. Shadow Lake sunsets will never feel quite the same without him there.
Though Paul’s passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who loved him, the love he shared and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in their hearts forever. In their sorrow, his family finds peace and comfort in the deep Catholic faith that guided Paul throughout his life, trusting that he has now been welcomed into the loving presence of the Lord. His kindness, laughter, unwavering devotion to family, and steady presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered every day.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Evelyn; daughter, Kellee Johns and husband Jason; and four cherished grandchildren: Gregory Pickens, Jillian Pickens, Spencer Johns, and Carter Johns. He was sadly predeceased by his daughter, Amy Mae Charron, in October 2022, his sister, Janet LaClair, in April 2007, and his best friend, Fred Hall, in March 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church on Hill Street in Lyndonville with Fr. Lance Harlow as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather at Paul’s home following the burial to share memories, stories, and celebrate his life together.
Memorial donations may be made in Paul’s memory to the Knights of Columbus; St. Elizabeth’s Council.
