Paul R. Doyon

Paul R. Doyon, age 85, of West Burke, VT passed away on June 27, 2026, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

He was born on December 19, 1940, to Ralph and Germaine (Laramee) Doyon in Glen Cove on Long Island, NY.

Shortly after he was born his parents moved back home to Newport Center, VT. In 1942, they moved to West Burke, VT and then in 1951, to Burke Hollow, VT, where he attended graded school, and would meet the future love of his life Carolyn (Carrie) Hackett. He graduated high school in Newport Center with the Class of 1959.

On December 31, 1960, he married his wife Carrie Hackett, and they started their young lives together at Bridge Hampton on Long Island, NY where he worked on a large dairy farm. In 1961, they returned to the family farm in Newport Center.

Paul wore many hats in his long working life; farmer, logger, truck driver, sawmill operator, welder, mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He was a long-haul truck driver for DeCato Bros. Trucking for many years. He is best known locally for his business partnership with his "brother” and lifelong friend Robert (Bob) Doyon, at Mountain View Lumber, established in 1974, until the sawmill was sold in 1990. He then went back to trucking and started P&C Doyon Trucking. Before his full retirement he worked for the Town of Burke. He really was a jack of all trades.

Paul enjoyed his daily visits with friends in his truck garage and putting up firewood and loved spending time with his family. He will always be remembered by those who knew him for his quick wit, his humor, his famous analogies, and of course, his trademark pipe.

He is survived by his wife of 65 yrs Carolyn (Carrie) Doyon; their 4 children: Lori and husband Doug Kammerer of Woodsville, NH, Paul and wife Michell Doyon of St. Johnsbury, VT, Randy and wife Mary Doyon of West Burke, VT, and Pamela and husband Randy Ashford of West Groton, VT; 6 grandchildren: Matt and wife Tricia Doyon of West Burke, VT, Andy Doyon of Newport, VT, Ryan Ashford of Groton, VT, Ashley and husband Chris Doyle of Groton, VT, Derek Ashford of West Groton, VT, and Emily Doyon of St. Johnsbury, VT; 8 great grandchildren: Easton and Logan Doyon, Lane and Orry Ashford, Wyatt ,Anna, Theron and Scarlett Doyle; 2 sisters: Arlene and husband Joe Ging of Tallahassee, FL, Lorraine and husband Wayne Gray of Newport, VT; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Doyon in 1984 and Germaine (Laramee) Doyon in 1993.
