Paul Hevey

September 12, 1940 — December 5, 2015

Paul Hevey, 75, of Concord and formerly Lyndonville, passed away at home Saturday evening, Dec. 5, 2015 with his family at his side.
He was born in St Johnsbury on Sept. 12, 1940, the fourth of seven children born to Arthur and Dora (LaPerle) Hevey. Paul graduated from St Johnsbury Academy with the class of 1957. He served in the Marine Corps and was sent, amongst other places, to Okinawa and Formosa, and was on heightened alert during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
On Aug. 18, 1962 he married Sherry Peters. Paul worked at Fairbanks Scales for 41 years. In 2001, the Heveys moved to Las Vegas where he worked and fully retired from Team Ford as a parts delivery driver. The Heveys moved back to Vermont in 2008. He belonged to the VFW and, at one time, the Moose Lodge. Paul enjoyed travelling very much, whether it was a "short spin" or a cross country trek which he and Sherry did four times. Paul was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and hunting with special friends. Paul had a quick wit and enjoyed having and attending parties with his family and close friends. He was a very attentive host for anyone that stopped by.
He is survived by his wife Sherry of Concord; daughter Kathy Pelow and husband Mike Pelow of St. Johnsbury; two grandchildren: Caitlin Gilman and Collin Gilman; three step-grandchildren Christopher and Ryan Pelow, and Danielle Pelow Peyronel.
His son Michael passed away in 1995 at the age of 32. When someone would ask Paul how many children he had, he always said he had two, Michael and Kathy. He was also predeceased by a sister Pauline Giguere and her husband Yvon Giguere, and a brother Roger Hevey.
He is also survived by Aunt Evelyn Hevey of St. Johnsbury; sister Helen Basal of West Windsor CT, brother Maurice Hevey and wife Jan of Burlington, sister Lorraine Perkins and husband Ralph of St. Johnsbury, sister Linda Dauphin and husband Stan of N. Danville; sister-in-law Claire Hevey of Ocala Florida; many special nieces and nephews, and the entire Peters family.
A private burial will be held by the family followed by an open celebration of Paul's life which will be held at the St. Johnsbury VFW Post #793, located on Eastern Ave. in St. Johnsbury, this Wednesday, December 9, beginning at 1 p.m. and concluding around 4 p.m.
