Pauline Anne (Greenwood) St. Hilaire

St. Johnsbury, VT: Pauline St. Hilaire, age 87, of lifetime resident of St. Johnsbury passed peacefully at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, NH Friday July 11, 2025.

Paulie was born on December 2, 1937, daughter to the late Clifford Thomas and Virginia Berdine (Hutchins) Greenwood.

She is survived by her daughter: Susan Brasmar and husband (William) of Lake Worth Beach, FL. Her grandson Christopher and wife (Kristine) and Great Granddaughter Ella St. Hilaire of Port St. Lucie, FL. Brother Paul and wife (Cyndy) Greenwood of Flagstaff, Arizona. Niece Tammy Greenwood and husband (Patrick), 2 great nieces Mikaela and Esmee Stewart of San Diego, California, Niece Ceilidh Greenwood of Flagstaff, Arizona. Brother-in-law Louie St. Hilaire and wife (Marilyn), sister-in-law Joanne McClure and husband (Leo). A large number of in-law nieces and nephews including Steve, Raelene, Judy, Linda, Wayne, Craig, Regina, Louise, Roy, Diana, Jeannette, Jimmy, Donna, Lisa, Debbie, Kathy, Kim, Ernie, Joni, Heidi, Tim, Pattie, Anne Marie, Michael, Nick and Mark.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 41 years Raymond J. St. Hilaire in 2001, her son Shane St. Hilaire in 2009. Brother in laws Odrick St. Hilaire, Gerard St. Hilaire, Yvon St. Hilaire, sister in laws Lillian Beaudion, Edna Twombley, Nilda Silloway, Giselle Gaskin; 9 nieces and nephews: Sharon, Phil, Melody, Gary, Jerome, Laurie, Bruce, Jimmy and Richard.

A beloved mother and cherished friend, she was a compassionate individual and loved living her life, attended catholic school and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1955. In 1959 Paulie married the love of her life Raymond St. Hilaire and raised two children Susan and Shane. Residing in Concord VT until 1972 when they moved to FL. Returning to St Jay in 1982 and lived in her treasured home. She had worked and retired with the VT Unemployment agency for many years. Paulie loved being social and enjoyed her work environment. Over the years she had many interests, raising her children, Jitterbug dancing with Ray, playing cards, cribbage, knitting and sewing, crochet, reading, gardening (especially flowers) making her donuts, and volunteering which she did at the St. Johnsbury Welcome Center. Her absolute pastime was spending time with family and friends. Last but surely not least playing bingo and winning!

Paulie was a devoted Catholic parishioner with a strong faith. After retirement she devoted many hours to her church volunteering at the Christmas bazaars, funeral luncheons, and tireless hours preparing food for the concession at bingo. She supported the stewardship and Corpus Christi Parish weekly. She also supported annually the Lyndon Institute scholarships for the Clifford Greenwood music award and the Tammy Greenwood-Stewart writing award.

We find comfort in knowing that Paulie’s legacy lives on through her faith and the lessons she taught us, the love she shared and the memories we will cherish forever.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday, August 2, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist in St. Johnsbury, VT with Father Lance Harlow as celebrant. There will be no calling hours. Following the mass, a casual reception and celebration of life for family and friends will be held at the St. Johnsbury Distillery on Eastern Ave.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date: Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Johnsbury Vt at 10am.
