Phillip J DeWitt 65 of St Johnsbury Center, passed away at home on August 19,2026.
Phillip was born on March 10,1961 in Rutland Vt, to the late James B & Eleanor Joyce DeWitt. He was raised in East St Johnsbury . Graduated from St Johnsbury Academy in 1979. He spent most of his working career with his father operating Northeast Square and Dowell, in North Haverhill NH. He married Karen Batchelder on August 9,1986. Before his passing, they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Karen Batchelder: Children, Benjamin DeWitt (Chelsea), Brittany DeWitt (Jim Stauffer), Zachary DeWitt (Jamie), Rebeccca DeWitt (Ryan Ward), Phillip DeWitt Jr. (Rebecca Lee-DeWitt); Grandchildren; Caleb, Charlotte, Sawyer, Jolene, Eda, Adrian; Siblings Susan Wilder (Paul Austin), Judith DeWitt (Mark Yellen), Elizabeth Aquista (Salvador Aquista), Margaret Fonde (Greg Fonde), Mother in-law Gladys Batchelder. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Phil left impressions on everyone he met and was always able to find the good in people. He was wise, crafty, sarcastic and most of all, loving. He instilled in many people, to be kind to all walks of life, especially the disabled.
Phil spent many years playing the drums for The Sutton River Band, making lifelong friends. His love for music imprinted on everyone he knew, especially his wife and children. He enjoyed his time spending summers at the family camp on Miles Pond in Concord, VT.
Phil lived with Parkinson's disease for 33 years. He always found a way to keep his head up with the support of his family. The greatest life lessons Phil brought to the table were good work ethic, life enjoyment and devotion to family. A class "A" role model.
Burial will take place at Grove Cemetery in East St Johnsbury at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions can be made in Phillip's name to Caledonia Home Health/Hospice and Calex.
