Robert Paul Garand, 71, of St. Johnsbury, VT., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, September 1, 2025. Bob was born in St. Johnsbury on November 3, 1953, to Raymond and Yvonne (Mignault) Garand. He attended St. Johnsbury Academy and the St. Johnsbury Trade School, graduating with the class of 1973. Bob attended Vermont Machine Skills Training in 1981, gaining a certificate in 1982. Bob worked at several auto parts stores over the years, including Weymouth Auto Parts, A. D. Sanel, Bond, and O’Reilly’s. He also drove cars for dealerships with his friend Rocky.
Bob lived in the same apartment building that his mother owned all of his life, renting the third floor, and then moving back downstairs to care for his mom in her later years. Even after her death, he continued renting the same apartment that he’d grown up in from the new owner, until his death. He had a love of cars and owned many over the years, including a Z28 and an early 70’s Nova SS with the license plate “TRYME”. He enjoyed watching Nascar and Survivor, listening to classic rock, riding around town, and time spent with friends. He loved his family, his hometown, and had one love in his younger years he regretted never settling down with and marrying. He had an infectious smile and a wonderful sense of humor. He will be so very missed by his close family, and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the kidney center for taking such good care of him.
Survivors include his brother Ray Garand of Oxford Maine; two nieces, Lisa (Garand) Robichaud of Oxford Maine, and Lynn (Garand) Rathbun of Norway Maine; and four nephews, Kevin Garand of St Johnsbury, Curtis Garand of Albuquerque New Mexico, Mark Garand of Raymond Maine, and Bradley Garand of Biddeford Maine. He is predeceased by his parents, and one brother, Dick Garand of St. Johnsbury.
There will be a graveside service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 1pm for anyone who would like to pay their respects.
