Robert Clayton Morris, 94, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on December 4, 1930, to Clayton and Dorthea (Stillwell) Morris, Robert was born and raised in St. Johnsbury and remained in the area his whole life, other than when he served in the military. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1950 and proudly served until 1954, during the Korean War.

In his later years, he was very proud of his title as the oldest homeowner on Pleasant Street, which housed his antiques collection and his favorite antique wood stove. His favorite job was working at Elliots Greenhouse as a landscaper, which combined his work with his love of being outdoors.

In many ways Robert was a renaissance man. He loved hunting and going to the fair every year but also loved poetry and enjoying the simple things like the stone wall at his family homestead. Above all else, though, Robert loved his family. He loved having a family that gathered often, whether for Christmas or for a vacation at Old Orchard Beach. Family was the most important thing, and it is his family that will miss him the most.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Susan (Paul) Hedstrom; sons Robert (Kerry) Morris and Timothy Morris; grandchildren Amanda Fiske, Clayton Hedstrom, Katherine Hedstrom, Rebecca Hedstrom, Kevin Piadade and another granddaughter; great-grandchildren Gavin Bouchard, Thomas Fiske II, Kaleb Fiske, and Ryan Morris; sisters Jean Morris and Lillian Sweet; and cousin Jeff Morris and a great-granddaughter on the way. He was predeceased by his parents Clayton and Dorothea Morris.

There will be no calling hours. Robert will have a private Graveside at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Military Honors to for his service in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 12 Noon on May 16, 2025, at the Monroe Town Hall, 50 Main Street in Monroe, NH.
