Robert A. Young, Sr.

St. Johnsbury Center, VT: Robert A. Young, Sr., age 75, of Breezy Hill Road. The family sadly shares the news of the passing of our beloved husband, father, and most importantly PAPA while surrounded by those he loved the most, early Monday morning, August 11, 2025. He fought the fight of a warrior, one that most couldn't endure until the very end. He is now pain free in the arms of the lord.

Born in N. Haverhill, NH, to the late Donald and Clara (Persons) Young, he grew up in St. Johnsbury and graduated from the St. Johnsbury Trade School in the Class of 1970. Robert Young, Sr, more affectionately known as Bob, was a lifelong resident of the Northeast Kingdom, he was an avid eagle collector, from statues to pins, he just loved everything with America’s bird on it. He was proud to be a U.S. Army Veteran. Bob had a special bond with Grandson, Calvin Marchbanks, Army Veteran and nephew, Christian Aldrich, active-duty U.S. Marine who proudly served and serve their country.

Bob had many hobbies including woodworking, carpentry, and stock car racing; he could talk racing for days. He enjoyed being with his family watching his Grandson Kasey race throughout New England and most recently his grandson, Cameron, following in his footsteps. Nothing made him prouder than to watch his grandson’s race, and he would tell you all about it. His greatest joy was to be the best Papa in the world to all of his grandkids. He took great pride in being wrapped around their fingers doing whatever they wanted. Even if Mom, Dad or Meme said no.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Gloria Young, his 3 sons: Kevin Young (Pam) of St. Johnsbury, Paul Durgin (Stephanie) of Ridgeville, SC, Chris Beattie (Courtney Bradley) of St. Johnsbury, 4 siblings: Donald Young, Jr. (Sandy) of St. Johnsbury, Lois Young (Wally) of St. Johnsbury, Rodney Young (Kim) of Bradford, VT, Louise Young of St. Johnsbury, 13 grandchildren: Kasey, Leah, Cameron Sierra, Haylee, Brooklyn, Calvin, Lisa, Amy, Daniel, Joseph, Amanda, Rebecca, 28 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Robert Young, Jr. and granddaughter, Annabelle Young both in 2015, 3 brothers: Joseph, Roger, Stanley, Sr. and his sister Linda.

Thank you to pastor Jeff for his prayers and friendship to Bob leading him to the lord over the last 15 years. Thank you to Caledonia Home Health and Hospice staff for assisting in taking care of him over the last 6 months, a special thank you to his aid Brianna who genuinely cared about his health and friendship. We are beyond thankful to those that stood by our sides during these difficult times.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the First Congregational Church of St. Johnsbury Center, Breezy Hill Road with Pastor Jeff Potter officiating. There will be no calling hours at this time.  Interment will take place at a future date at the Concord Village Cemetery.
