Samuel R. Little, Sr.

Samuel Robert Little, Sr., 81, of Barre & formerly of Burlington, VT, passed away on August 3, 2026 at Central Vermont Medical Center, with his family at his side.

Sam was born on November 18, 1944, in Trenton, NJ to Clayton & Miriam (Snook) Little. He was proud to have been raised in Pennington, NJ, where he began a 40-year career in law enforcement. After moving to Vermont, he worked at the Chittenden County Sheriff's Department before finishing his career as a dispatcher at Winooski Police Department. He married Susan Curley on July 24, 1999, recently celebrating their 27th anniversary before his passing.

Sam will be remembered as a hard-working man who did everything for his family. He enjoyed annual vacations to Old Orchard Beach, camping for two months every summer at Kingdom Campground, and took great pride in his flower gardens at his home. Above all, Sam loved his family. He worked long, odd hours in order to support them, and as his health declined, he said that his reason to keep fighting was to be with his family. A man of quiet faith, he believed in the promises of God, and those who remember him are left to hold on to that promise of eternal life.

Sam is survived by his wife, Susan Little; children Samuel (Kara) Little, Jr., William (Buffy) Little, Robert (Liz) Little, & Molly Little; sister Vivian (Tom) Perkins; as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his beloved pets Ruby & Joseph. He was predeceased by his parents, Clayton & Miriam Little, and siblings Clayton (June) Little, Jr., Dolores (Chuck) Little, and James (Nancy) Little.

Friends may call on the family on Monday, August 10, 2026, beginning at 9:30am at the North Avenue Alliance Church, 901 North Avenue, Burlington, VT. A funeral service will be held at 11am at the same location. Burial will immediately follow at New Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Burlington. A potluck reception will follow the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sam’s memory can be made to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice. The family wishes to thank the staff at CVHHH for their excellent care in Sam’s final weeks.
