Born March 27, 1939 to Albert and Barbara (Weaver) Whittlesey in Abington, PA, Shianna died December 17, 2025 in Frederick, MD at The Record Street Home where she has resided in an independent room with a special group of ladies for the past four years.
Shianna graduated in 1957 from Abington Friends School where she had the opportunity to study abroad in France while living with the Peterschmitt family whom she cherished. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1961 from Mount Holyoke College. Being a natural networker, she enjoyed employment in Real Estate for many years. In 1983 she obtained her Masters Degree in counseling at Penn State Ambler. Passionate about textures and bright colors of material she expressed herself through creating textile art pieces.
As an artist seeking inspiration and intrigued by people’s stories Shianna and Rex made multiple moves in the past forty years including: Durham, NH; Sewall’s Point & Miami, FL; Lake Lure & Durham, NC; Hot Springs, AK; Miles Pond & St. Johnsbury, VT; Savannah & Fairburn, GA. Vermont she held dearest in her heart where she had many friends and some family nearby. Survivors include: her sister Mary Whittlesey of VA; her children James Turman, Sandy Turman, Barbara Turman and stepdaughter Pat Kuhn all of PA; her grandchildren Rachel Wynn (David Poms), Jess Turman, Lillie Turman (Billy Ambrose); great-grandchildren Oliver Poms, Julian Poms, Juniper Ambrose, and Naomi Poms; cousins; nieces and nephews, having shared a special connection with “Sita” (Ginger) Henson; and numerous friends hither and yon. She was predeceased by her husband Richard “Rex” Kuhn and grandson Matthew Wynn.
The family wants to recognize all of the devoted workers and volunteers at Record Street Home who enjoyed Shianna for who she was, supporting her independence - even as she joyfully walked around Frederick every day - and for their tender loving care of Shianna at the end of her life. Donations may be sent to Record Street Home, 115 Record St., Frederick, MD 21701 in Shianna’s memory. Shianna requested that those who want to honor her life would do a good deed for someone anonymously, only known to their own heart.
A graveside gathering will take place at 1:00 on June 1, 2026 at the family plot in Dellwood Cemetery, Manchester, Vermont.
