Shirley Langmaid

August 9, 1923 — February 19, 2016

Shirley Langmaid, age 92, formerly of Hawkins Road, passed away at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center on Friday, February 19, 2016, following a brief decline in health.
Shirley was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on August 9, 1923, daughter to the late Walter and Ruth (Davis) Blodgett. She was raised and educated in Danville graduating from Danville High School in the Class of 1941. She married Arnold Langmaid in 1942 and shared 72 years together until his passing on January 3, 2014. Shirley was a homemaker and farm wife, raising 4 boys which kept her busy. She knitted and crocheted and was a talented seamstress, making clothes for her grandchildren's American Dolls. She was part of the original committee to save the Old North Church in North Danville where she ran the pump organ, was a member or the North Danville Baptist Church serving as organist and choir director. Shirley took up square dancing with Arnold when he retired, dancing all over New England and even on the Hoover Dam while visiting her son, Dean.
She is survived by her sons: Dwayne and Diantha of Walden, VT, Dean and Beverly of Boulder City, NV, David and Marie of North Danville, Don and Dianne of North Danville, 9 grandchildren: Amy, Alison, Thomas, Christy, Michelle, Sarah, Zachary, Jeni, Jake and 9 great0grandchildren, a brother-in-law: Hugh Langmaid of N. Danville, sister-in-laws: Joyce Bennett of St. Johnsbury Center and Charlotte Blodgett of Waterford.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the North Danville Baptist Church on Bruce Badger Memorial Hwy. with the Rev. Robert Sargent officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at the Pope Cemetery in the springtime.
There will be no calling hours.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the Staff of St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab for the care Shirley received over the past three and a half years there.
