Susanne May (Canney) Muller, 71, of Danville, Vermont, passed away on October 7, 2026, following a severe heart attack. She was born in Concord, New Hampshire, on April 18, 1955, to Rowena Anctil and Ralph Canney. She grew up near the New Hampshire seacoast with her sisters, Jane (Canney) Hayton and Donna (Canney) Walters. They spent many days with their grandmother, who was an important figure in their lives.
Susanne met her future husband, Clifton Muller, while attending Bible school in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. After marriage in 1979, they primarily resided in Alexandria, Virginia, before moving to Danville, Vermont, with their seven children in 1995.
Susanne deeply valued life in her country farmhouse, where she taught her children how to garden, raise animals, and appreciate music. She enjoyed staying active and took her children on frequent bike rides, hikes, and camping trips throughout their childhood. Spending a day at York Beach in Maine was a yearly summer ritual, when she would take her children to soak up the sun and enjoy the surf. Fresh, homemade food was a core part of her life, and the family shared many memorable meals over the years.
For more than 20 years, Susanne and her children were regular vendors at the Caledonia County Farmers Market, selling delicious bread and other baked goods. When she retired from the market, many locals mourned the loss of what they considered the best cinnamon swirl bread in the county.
As her children grew up, moved out, and began lives of their own, Susanne spent more time with old friends and new, generously sharing her time and skills to support people near and far. She was a devoted grandmother who never forgot a birthday. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s soccer games and relished quiet moments with them, reading, cooking, and playing.
Susanne was devoted to serving others, always finding ways to support a friend or child in need, whether for an hour or several days.
When her son Ian was killed in action in March 2011, Susanne devoted herself to supporting other Marines and found comfort in developing friendships with veterans and their families. She made a point of getting to know the many people she met through the veteran community.
Susanne was a woman of faith who spent many hours studying God’s Word. She was passionate about everything she chose to do. Even when something seemed impossible, she would find a way to make it happen once she set her mind to it.
Susanne will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her sons, Ian Muller and Reuben Muller, and her mother, Rowena Anctil.
She is survived by her children: Ryan Muller and his wife, Rita; Dylan Muller; Benjamin Muller and his wife, Rebecca; Quinton Muller; and Madeleine Muller. She is also survived by Grace (Muller) Madden, the widow of her son Reuben.
Susanne leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Fiona, Phoebe, Henry, Abel, and Gwendolyn Muller, children of Ryan; Lincoln and Legacy Muller, sons of Reuben; and Rubi Muller, daughter of Madeleine.
A private funeral and burial will be held. A celebration of life will be announced to family, friends, and community members who knew her.
