Suzanne Wood

Kirby, VT: Suzanne “Sue” Wood, age 82, of Wood Lane, passed peacefully at her daughter Joanne’s home in St. Johnsbury, VT with her family around her on Saturday, January 27, 2024. 

Sue was born in Kirby, VT, on November 11, 1941, daughter to the late Densmore and Iva (Phillips) Gorham and grew up in Kirby.  She graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1961 and married Robert “Bob” Wood on May 19, 1962.  She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Sue had the gift of encouragement and would frequently visit, send cards, or call those who were grieving or ill.  Sue enjoyed making cakes for family and as a side business. She also greatly enjoyed going to yard sales and square dancing with Bob. They traveled in their camper to every state in the union except Hawaii and spent 3 months in Alaska.  Each room in her home had anywhere from one to five plants and her gardens were a labor of love. Sue was a homemaker but when she left the house or had guests over, her hair and makeup were all put together so as not to disappoint. 

She leaves behind her 3 children: Joanne Lawson of St. Johnsbury, VT,  Daniel Wood (JoAnn) of Deltona, FL, Katrina Roy (Peter) of Colchester, VT, 2 sisters: Ruth Houghton of Kirby, Sandra Berry of Lyndonville, 5 grandchildren: Christopher Briggs, Elizabeth Briggs, Adam Lawson, Michael Spillman, David Spillman, 6 great-grandchildren: Jazmine Briggs, Travis Forgues, Natasha Hackett, Derek Hackett, James Spillman, Horizon Spillman; and 2 great-great-grandchildren: Shad Sevard and Ember Mayo and many nieces and nephews. 

            She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Bob, in 2023, her son-in-law: Richard Lawson in 2022 and her sisters: Phyllis Wood and Norma Garfield. 

            Funeral Services will be held at 1PM on the 17th of February at the Union Baptist Church, US RT5 in Waterford, VT, with Rev. Clifton Bullock. A reception will immediately follow. There will be no calling hours at this time. 

Burial will take place in the summer at 2PM on Friday June 14, 2024, at the South Kirby Cemetery on Kirby Mountain Road.
