Thomas McFarland

April 15, 1953 — April 30, 2025

Thomas “Tom” McFarland (72) of Lyndonville VT, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH, with the love of his life (his everything) by his side, after a brief battle with aggressive liver cancer.

The son of the late Wendell McFarland and Mildred Lee, Tom was born on April 15, 1953, in St. Johnsbury, VT. Tom’s family moved to California when he was young, and he enjoyed his teenage years in the 60’s Hippy Era. Tom served as an Information Specialist in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Springfield College with a Bachelor of Science in Human services. Tom served as the Director for the Mutual UFO Network of Vermont. Tom retired from the State of Vermont after 25 years of dedicated service in various roles.

Tom was loved by many and known for being a devoted husband, father and “Papa”. Tom had a goofy side and made it his goal to make his wife laugh, daily. Tom’s creativity was shared through his elaborate recipes, not only for Holidays but for weeknight dinners with Jan, his imaginative Halloween costumes and helping his kids and grandkids with school projects. After retirement, Tom enjoyed time spent with his wife, whether on the greens or at their home in Florida, where they had made many close friends. When he was not golfing or at his “winter” home, Tom could be found back on the greens at Barton Golf Course on his tractor as the “mower”. Many hours were spent watching the sky with interest in space, attending rocket launches and hoping to one day make it to space himself.

Tom is survived by his wife Jan Greaves, his children Jeremy McFarland, Wendell McFarland and Sarah McFarland (Lance), Lori Clough, Kirby Parker (Derek), Alex Parker (Larissa) and, grandchildren Dylan McFarland, Danica McFarland, Aidan McClintock, Kaylin McFarland, Mason McClintock, Peyton McClintock and Mackenzie Parker.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wendell McFarland, sisters Catherine McFarland and Elizabeth (Debbie) Wright.

Tom’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Jack Byrne Center for the excellent care given to Tom and support for his loved ones during his time there. They would also like to thank Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home for their services. A celebration of life will be held later this summer. Donations in Tom’s memory can be made to the Jack Byrne Center or any Cancer Charity of your choice.
